FAQs

Who runs SYG?

State Youth Games Victoria is run by Churches of Christ Vic/Tas and Foundations, their generational ministry arm. The planning and implementation of the event is overseen by a volunteer Committee. During the event you can recognise Committee members and SYG team members by their warm red jackets.

Can I attend on my own?

Sorry, no. All attendees at SYG must be part of a group. If you don’t have a group already, SYG might be able to connect you with one. Contact us to start a conversation.

What ages can attend?

All ages are welcome to join in at SYG and experience the camping, community, and music in the evenings. But sports are restricted to people in Year 7 (or equivalent) to 29.

Every person at SYG who is aged 18 or older is required to hold a valid Victorian Working With Children Check as a condition of entry.

Can I visit, but not play?

Yes, but you will still need to register. If you are only visiting to spectate a sport and not staying overnight or attending the evening program, you probably qualify for a free ticket. But you still need to register with your group. SYG is a ticketed event and any participant, visitor, or helper without a ticket will be turned away from the event.

Why do I need a Working With Children Check?

Due to the unique nature of SYG we make a valid Victorian Working With Children Check a condition of entry for all people aged 18 or over, regardless of their responsibilities or other employment. A volunteer WWCC is free to obtain and helps provide a safe environment for young people while they camp, play sport, and explore faith together.

Some professionals, such as registered teachers and police officers, are often exempt from WWCC requirements, but at SYG we require teachers and police officers (and other exempt professionals) to hold a WWCC. WWCCs give a greater level of transparency for local church groups and SYG than VIT registrations and police badges, and come with no additional cost to teachers or police officers.
