Spirit of the Games
The Spirit of State Youth Games is to compete in fun and friendly competition in a way that reflects the character of Jesus with love, joy, generosity, kindness, fairness, inclusion, and peace. Winners of the Spirit of the Games award embody and act out of the best that our community can be.
This year’s Spirit of the Games Award goes to Fuse.
Mark Hughes Good Sports Award
The Good Sports Award is named for SYG legend Mark Hughes, who was one of the pioneers of SYG. Mark and the team had a vision for an event that brings churches together and gives opportunities for young people to encounter Jesus. Mark died of cancer in 2011, but his legacy lives on every year at SYG.
This year’s Good Sports Award is awarded to Bethany Nunan & Mara Waterhouse.
Graham Ball Award
The Graham Ball Award is named for SYG legend Graham Ball, a pioneer and long-time contributor to State Youth Games, serving on the Committee from 1991 to 2018. The Graham Ball Award acknowledges the dogged determination and quiet generosity that characterised Graham’s time with SYG, and highlights the contributions of volunteers, helpers, and teams in making their own communities and the SYG community great.
The winner of the Graham Ball Award is Marty & Yvette from Holy Sports.
